Smuggled cigarettes worth €78,000 seized at Rosslare Port

A Romanian man was questioned following the seizure and investigations are ongoing

Smuggled cigarettes worth more than €78,000 have been seized by customs using a detector dog at Rosslare Port.

An Irish registered van was stopped and searched after it disembarked a ferry from France earlier today.

With assistance from Alfie the dog, officers found cigarrettes branded "Kent", "Marlboro Red" and "Marlboro Gold", concealed in bags labelled as charcoal.

Revenue says the smuggled cigarettes have an estimated retail value of €78,761.

A Romanian man was questioned and investigations are ongoing.
