The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) say a small number of cases mentioned by Deputy Martin Kenny in the Dáil yesterday have either already been investigated, or are currently under investigation by them.

Mr Kenny used Dáil privilege to claim that senior officers in Leitrim ignored offences by criminal informants.

He says the Independent Review Mechanism set up to deal with garda complaints has told them some parts of their claims will not be followed up.

The Garda Representative Association (GRA) has said it was not aware of the claims.

In a statement this afternoon, Mr Kenny said the GRA had helped with providing a legal team for one officer who is the subject of disciplinary proceedings.

While GSOC says it "listened with concern" to the matters brought into the public domain by Deputy Kenny.

The Commission says it has arranged a meeting with Deputy Kenny next week to discuss the matters raised.
