The jury in the trial of a man accused of raping his wife, after threatening her with a knife, has retired for the evening without reaching a verdict.
The 42-year-old is also accused of head butting her during an argument on their son’s birthday in May 2014.
The jurors were sent home after spending two hours and 17 minutes considering the six charges against the woman’s husband.
While, he admits hitting her with a hammer in August 2014, he took the stand last week to deny the other charges.
In his final address to the jury yesterday, his barrister accused the woman of telling lies and said a person may consent to sex without wanting to have sex with someone.
He said the mere fact that somebody is upset doesn’t mean it’s not consensual.
The jury will resume its deliberations in the morning.
