A young Spanish woman is recovering after an alleged serious sexual assault in Dublin.

The 18-year-old has reported the attack took place at the weekend.

She met an Irish man in the city centre on Saturday, but was persuaded to take a southbound DART.

She reported being pulled into a tent in the Pigeon House Road area while the pair walked through Ringsend.

It is alleged the attack took place over a number of hours.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the alleged assault.

He has since been released without charge, and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Stephen Breen, crime editor of The Irish Sun, has more details.

"We understand that she met an individual in Dublin city centre, they then took a train out to the Sandymount area.

"It was during this period that they were in the Sandymount and Ringsend area - they were going for a walk - and suddenly the suspect in this case is believed to have dragged the woman into a tent which he had been staying in in the Pigeon House Road area".

"When she escaped from this individual she immediately went to gardaí, and gardaí in Irishtown launched an investigation".
