Weather warnings for more rainfall are in place across the country tonight.

An Orange alert for rain is in place in counties Clare, Cork and Kerry while a yellow warning is underway elsewhere.

There are fears of further flooding along the Shannon - particularly in the Midlands and Mid-West as water levels in the river's basin are continuing to rise.

Up to 50mm of rain is expected to fall on Saturday, with the worst of the weather in Clare, Cork and Kerry.

There will be prolonged falls of very heavy rain expected overnight Friday and during Saturday, bringing further flooding.

The warning will remain in place until midnight on Saturday.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow warning is in place for Munster, Connacht and Leinster.

Some 25-35mm rain will fall in parts, with higher amounts on higher ground.

With the new weather warning comes fresh fears of flooding for the thousands who have been affected along the River Shannon, in Cork, Mayo and Galway.

There is also a status yellow marine weather warning in place.
