Gardaí say an 11-month old baby boy has been found dead at an apartment complex in Co Kerry this evening.

Emergency services and gardaí were contacted about the incident on Upper High Street in Killarney shortly before 6pm.

The boy was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A man in his 30s was taken to University Hospital Kerry in Tralee where he is being treated for serious injuries.

The Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster, is due to carry out a forensic examination at the scene.

Gardaí say they are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the infant's death.
