As RTÉ announces it will be making an Irish version of the UK's 'Strictly Come Dancing', speculation is mounting as to who will take to the dance floor.

The show, which replaces 'The Voice Of Ireland', will see 11 celebrities paired with professional ballroom dancers.

They will compete each week by performing one or more choreographed routines.

Who will put their dancing shoes on in early 2017? We look at some of the potential candidates:

George Hook

The Newstalk host is no stranger to the dance floor.

He performed The Charleston to 'Bop Bop Americano' on The Late Late Show in May last year.

Anne Doyle

The RTÉ newsreader read her final bulletin back in back in December 2011, but she has far from disappeared from the public eye.

A regular on Newstalk and other shows - including an infamous rap on TV3's late Lunch Live - she's proven she is well able to hold a beat.

Derval O'Rourke

The former professional athlete is one of Ireland's most successful. She was the World Indoor 60m hurdles Champion in 2006, won silver in both the 2006 and 2010 European Championships in the 100m hurdles and won bronze in both the 2009 and 2013 European Indoor Championships in the 60m hurdles.

Could she transform those to a dancefloor?

Rosanna Davison

No stranger to the spotlight - dancefloor or otherwise - Rosanna won the title of Miss World back in 2003.

The daughter of singer Chris De Burgh has also launched her own nutrition range.

She is a qualified and insured Nutritional Therapist, and a graduate of the College of Naturopathic Medicine.

Henry McKean

Well, where to start. Newstalk's Henry McKean has been everywhere in recent years, covering the strange and wonderful.

He's given 'birth' to a baby and driven many a politician around in his car.

We think dancing is the next best two-step for him...

Aengus Mac Grianna

As famous for some news bloopers as news reading, Mac Grianna has also shown his culinary skills on 'Celebrity MasterChef Ireland.'

He also chose his former colleague, Anne Doyle, to give him away at his wedding to husband Terry Gill in 2014.

Niall Horan

The Mullingar pop star has been heading in one direction in his career - to the top of the charts.

But Horan has shown himself to be an avid golfer and he also owns a golf management company, Modest! Golf.

After singing usually comes dancing - could it be dancing that's next on his list?

Niamh Briggs

The full-back from Waterford made her Munster debut in 2006 and has won a number of interprovincial titles with her province.

Niamh took over the captaincy of the Ireland Women’s team at the beginning of the 2014/15 campaign, and guided Ireland to the Six Nations title in 2015.

In 2014, Niamh was named in the IRB Team of the Year.

Any chance of a dance over the line, Niamh?

Twink

Adèle King - aka Twink - has been a staple on the entertainment scene in Ireland for decades.

She has been a stage star, agony aunt, and even a baker.

She is selling homemade pies to customers at her local farmers market.

Panto, dancing - seems like a natural progression...

Linda Martin

Why me? Who knows. But Eurovision winner Martin seems like the perfect candidate.

She served as a judge on the first, second and fourth seasons of RTÉ's 'You're a Star.'

And her 'Why Me' remix back in May took Twitter by storm.

Mick Wallace

The Independent TD for Wexford takes on all forms of issues in the Dáil.

He is known for his pink shirt as much as anything else.

Would he swap it for a sparkly one, instead?

Michael O'Leary

The Ryanair chief has performed so many stunts over the years, it's hard to keep track of them all.

But this seems like a natural fit for the man who wears such outfits as that above during the Brexit campaign.

Keith Duffy

Singer, dancer, 'Coronation Street' actor - Duffy is a household name.

We know he can dance thanks to early gems courtesy of Boyzone and YouTube.

Why not put it to good use?

Vogue Williams

This DJ, model, and presenter keeps a blog of all her goings on.

She has already taken part in a 'Dancing with The Stars' back in 2012.

Williams made it to the Grand Final dancing the Paso Doble in Australia.

Cecelia Ahern

This author is the daughter of former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

Her first novel 'PS, I Love You' was sold to 47 countries.

A film of the same title starred Hilary Swank, Gerard Butler and Kathy Bates.

Ahern has this year released 'Flawed', her first book for young adults.

To date, she has sold over 22 million copies of her books world-wide.

Can she dance? Who knows - but we'd like to find out...

Danny Healy-Rae

Whether you agree with his beliefs on who controls the weather, the Kerry TD is part of one of Ireland's largest political dynasty.

He famously has said that "we can't believe all what the scientists are saying" in relation to climate change.

And he has recently hit out at delays in building a road in Cork.

It would be good to see his impression of a rain dance...

Marty Morrissey

The RTÉ commentator was born in Mallow, Cork but was raised in the Bronx, New York.

He is a former GAA player, who has filled Ryan Tubridy's shoes on his radio show during the summer break.

Ah sure it can't be that far to the 'Dancing with The Stars' set?

Crystal Swing's Derek

Along with this sister Dervla and mother Mary, they have appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show in the US, as well as having several hits.
