Long before Elf airs, the Late Late Toy Show, or the lighting of the lights on Grafton Street - most Irish shoppers are already in Christmas mode.

You probably haven't thrown your pumpkin out yet, but 95% of Irish people now believe that Christmas starts before Halloween ends - that's according to iReach Insights who surveyed 1,000 adults to investigate their thoughts on Christmas and when it is appropriate to start the build-up to December 25th.

With shops offering more retail space to festive products by the week, most of us think that Christmas is here - but not everyone is happy about the prolonging of the period.

Two thirds of respondents say that launching the Christmas window display at this stage is 'way too early.' Brown Thomas opened its Christmas store in mid-August.

The majority (74%) of respondents consider November to be an appropriate time for shops to start decorating, with 18% of respondents thinking December is more appropriate.

78% think you should decorate your home in December and 18% start in November (we're not going to ask about the remaining 4%).

Meanwhile - 45% of respondents don’t remember the best Christmas gift they ever received.
