Gary Breen believes that some of the players in the current Manchester United team are not good enough to play within Jose Mourinho's system.

Speaking after United's late 2-1 win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon, the former Republic of Ireland international insisted that parts of the panel just don't fit into Mourinho's mould.

"Ultimately you look at it and say there's going to be a realisation soon that some of these players just are not good enough to play for Manchester United - or certainly not within Jose Mourinho's framework," he explained on Off The Ball's Football Saturday in association with Boylesports.

"For him to be as honest as he was and say they could have been 6-2 down at half time shows you the problems that he has.

"All of the top teams, throughout his tenure as a manager, everything was based on a good defensive structure. That's not just defenders I'm talking about.

"In his Inter Milan Champions League winning side, you had Samuel Eto'o as a centre forward - and one of the best in Europe - playing like a left-back putting in a shift.

"In his Chelsea teams, the likes of [Arjen] Robben, [Damien] Duff and [Eden] Hazard, you remember how hard they worked out of possession.

"It's something he can't get this Manchester United team to do well enough."

Although questions have been asked of Mourinho's ability to drill his players correctly on the training ground, Breen pointed out that a manager of his quality would be clear in his instructions to the players.

"There's no doubt in my mind that he's giving them the information but they're not able to execute it. Sometimes you just have to make a decision.

"As good as these players are in terms of what the public think - their price tag and what you're paying them - they can't actually do it.

"He's probably looking back at the board and saying: 'I know we've invested so much money in them, but they can't do it.'"
