Wexford and Kilkenny's Allianz National Hurling League game, which was due to take place on Sunday, has been called off.

Wexford GAA Chairman Micheál Martin has told South East Radio that they requested a postponement following another positive Covid-19 case in their squad.

It was revealed earlier this week that two hurlers among the Wexford panel tested positive for the virus.

Following another positive case of Covid-19 being detected amongst the panel, Wexford has requested a postponement to the Division One game, according to Martin on Saturday.

"The game is off tomorrow, unfortunately. We've requested a postponement.

"Our lads did further testing yesterday evening and we got results and we've one more positive case.

"Once we got the tests back this morning we had a conference call with public health and all our players will now be required to restrict movements until Wednesday."

It is unknown as of yet whether the game will be played at a later date or rewarded as a walk-over.

No hurling fixtures are due to take place next weekend 29/30 May.

Wexford's Martin is hoping the game will be rescheduled.

"We've requested a postponement due to the fact it is a free weekend so I suppose there is an advantage to that face.

"The CCC will have to consider that at their meeting on Monday.

"We, The GAA, are the community, so if it [Covid-19] gets into a community it's going to get into schools and inter-county teams.

"Everyone has a personal responsibility, this just proves that it's not over yet.

"Once you're notified of something you have to then take the proper course of action and we've had a long week of consultation with public health in the area, who've been very helpful."
