Newport County have been left with no training facilities ahead of the League Two play off final.

The Irish pair of Padraig Amond and Mark O’Brien are Wembley bound following a dramatic victory over Mansfield Town on Sunday. Carlow native and former Shamrock Rovers striker Amond was among those on the score sheet as Newport overcame Mansfield Town in a penalty shootout.

Promotion to League One will be at stake when they face Tranmere or Forest Green at Wembley in two weeks time, but Newport are scrambling for a place to prepare.

The Welsh side do not own a training ground and their Newport Stadium base is being closed for maintenance work.

Manager Michael Flynn is desperately seeking an alternative.

“I will be ringing around to see if I can get us a pitch.”

"I have just had a missed call from (Cardiff coach) Ronnie Jepson, but I think Cardiff have ripped up their training pitch," he said.

"We need to find somewhere.”

Promotion would cap off a dream season for Newport after a remarkable FA Cup run. The League Two minnows overcame Leicester City and Middlesbrough on the way to a memorable fifth round meeting with Manchester City.

Chairman Gavin Foxall is certain the club will overcome this latest obstacle.

"Evidently our providers didn't have the faith we had that we were going to get to Wembley."

"It is a bit of a challenge at the moment to ensure the boys have the facilities they need to train on, but as always with the club we will rally round and be prepared for Wembley whoever we play on that day."
