Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez has suffered a fractured skull following a collision with Arsenal's David Luiz on Sunday night.

Jimenez has subsequently undergone surgery and the club have released a short statement via their website on Monday. It reads:

“Raul is comfortable following an operation last night, which he underwent in a London hospital.

“He has since seen his partner Daniela and is now resting. He will remain under observation for a few days while he begins his recovery.

“The club would like to thank the medical staff at Arsenal, the NHS paramedics, hospital staff and surgeons who, through their skill and early response, were of such help."

The incident occurred during Wolves' 2-1 victory against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Jimenez accidentally clashed heads early in the match with Arsenal defender, David Luiz. Both players required around 10 minutes of medical attention and Jimenez needed oxygen as he lay on the pitch receiving treatment.

Luiz continued playing wearing a bandage around his head before being substituted at half-time, while Jimenez was replaced immediately by Fabio Silva.

It was scoreless at the time before Pedro Neto gave the visitors the initial advantage in the 27th minute. Three minutes later, Gabriel levelled for the hosts before Wolves retook the lead through Daniel Podence shortly before the interval.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' Raul Jimenez (centre) celebrates scoring his side's second goal of the game with his team mates during the Premier League match at Carrow Road, Norwich.

Jimenez has been a hit at Molineux since joining the club in 2018 on an initial season-long loan from Benfica before making the move permanent a year later.

In 86 Premier League appearances, the 29-year-old has scored 34 goals and provided 13 assists, including four goals in 10 league games so far this season for Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

Wolves currently lie in sixth place in the Premier League, level on points with Southampton and a point clear of Everton and Manchester United. They next play on Sunday night at Anfield against Liverpool but will have to make do without their star striker for the foreseeable future.
