There's been much talk of the Beatles with the 50th anniversary of the band's arrival in the United States.

We thought it would be the perfect time to catch up with journalist and author Ray Connolly for 'Back To Mine'.

Ray is well known for his many interviews with the Liverpool legends over the years, as well as his many screen plays and novels.  He wrote the biography John Lennon 1940-1980 as well as the introduction to The Beatles Complete songbook - a book that will be familiar to many guitarists!

He was due to interview John Lennon on the day the ex-Beatle was murdered by Mark Chapman.  In this wide ranging interview, Ray talks about how he could have been a member of the Quarrymen, explained how he came to own an original test pressing of Imagine, and told us how he managed to keep The Beatles break up secret.

You can listen to the full interview here and listen to Ray's 'Back To Mine' music choices below.

'Back to Mine' - Tuesdays from 10pm on The Tom Dunne Show.

Ray talked about the life changing experience that was hearing Elvis for the first time.  His first song was 'Trying to Get to You' by The King.

Next, Ray chose 'Eleanor Rigby' by The Beatles...

Finally, Ray talked about his current project - writing the screenplay for a new Dusty Springfield song.  He played of his favourite Dusty tracks 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself'.
