While you can’t please ‘em all, revelling in a bad review while trolling one of the best-known media companies in the world takes a lot of chutzpah, and if the poster of the new Tom Hardy movie Legend is anything to go by, the graphic designers decision will go down in marketing history.

The film, which tells the story of London gangsters and identical twins Ronald ‘Ronni’ and Reginald ‘Reggie’ Kray, has been garnering rave reviews from all and sundry, including Newstalk’s resident critic and Picture Show-host Philip Molloy – who interviewed its writer/director Brian Helgeland (see the link at the bottom of this post).

But far less enthused was The Guardian’s Benjamin Lee, who gave the film a cutting two-star review. Not that you would know that based on the poster, which in a classic trompe l’œil, would have anyone looking at the poster thinking Legend’s two stars are blocking out another two.

Sneaky, underhanded, sly, and unethical. Well... it is a movie about a pair of gangsters, after all.
