His new film Saving Mr. Banks which will open here on the 29th November
is the story of how Walt Disney convinced Australlian writer P.L. Travers
to let him do a film version of her Mary Poppins stories. The film moves
back and forth between 1961 when Travers visited California and was
slowly won over by Disney and Queensland, Australia in 1907 and her
relationship with the alcoholic father who inspired her. Tom Hanks is
cast as Disney in the film, Emma Thompson- in what she says
was the most difficult role of her career- is the prickly Travers and Colin
Farrell, in a character role, is her father. He spoke to Philip about his career and his new lifestyle.

Also on the show Irish director/producer, editor, cinematographer Nick Ryan whose
Irish-made documentary The Summit, has already been feted
at festivals from Sundance to Toronto and it will be shown at this year’s
Cork Film Festival on Sunday week before going on general release here on
22nd November.
The Summit, has won the Best Feature Length Film Award at the
prestigious Banff Film Festival in Canada.

That's The Picture Show Saturday's from 6-7pm.
