Professor Scott Lucas claims that key White House officials are attempting to “take down the American system”

Statements made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House advisor Stephen Miller on political extremism and the increase in assassination attempts amount to a new ‘Red Scare’, claims professor of International Politics.

On The Pat Kenny Show, Dr. Scott Lucas, professor of International Politics at UCD’s Clinton Institute, said that White House officials are trying to invoke an American culture war.

Prof. Lucas was responding to claims from Rubio that “radical leftism” is a cancer in America, and from Miller that recent assassination attempts against public officials show American institutions are to soft to defend themselves

Prof. Lucas argued that communists are unrepresented in the American political system, and that the Trump administration officials are trying to “whip up” issues regarding equality practices.

He claimed that Trump and his followers “don’t believe in the rule of law”, the judiciary, or political checks and balances; “you can choose the American system, or you can choose the Trump folks. You cannot choose both.”

Prof. Lucas likened statements made by Trump and Miller to those made by politicians in “Nazi Germany in the 1930s,” associating people with vermin.

‘The media’s fault’

Prof. Lucas criticised the media in their approach to covering the Trump Presidencies and said they have normalized his statements.

He argued that when Trump officials say they will “break the system,” the press report as if it is “just a standard process of politics within the system rather than an actual threat to it.”

Midterm elections

Prof. Lucas said that Republicans are “concerned about these midterm congressional elections” due to issues in America’s economy and claimed that they hope to dissuade people from voting.

He claimed that Republicans have attempted to complicate mail-in voting, early voting, and make it more difficult for votes to be counted.

Prof. Lucas stated that this is “the pretext to rig the elections, or to overturn them.”

Ground invasion of Iran

He said that there are rumours that the US military may attempt a ground invasion of the Iranian Karg Island in the US-Iran war.

With the US considering the plans in April, Prof. Lucas said that noise is being “ratcheted up” for an invasion despite enormous public opposition.
