iPhone 7 and 7 Plus were welcomed into the world with open arms. Apple's launch event was flawless and there was a true level of excitement surrounding the release of the new devices. They went on sale on Friday 16th September, but it appears that an issue has already arisen.

In recent years iPhone users have lived through Bendgate and Atennagate, but now iPhone 7 Plus brings us Hissgate. Some iPhone 7 Plus owners are reporting that their phone is emitting a strange hissing noise when the processor is performing intensive tasks.

A man named Steve Hackett took to Twitter over the weekend to post a short clip of his iPhone 7 Plus.

"As my iPhone 7 Plus was restoring from iCloud, I thought I noticed some sound. After picking the device up from my desk, it was clear the sounds are coming from back of the phone, possibly from the CPU. It seems to get worse if the iPhone is under load, and can be heard while the phone is sitting on a table," wrote Hackett.

It was only a matter of time before others shared their experiences of the hiss too.

While the issue does not appear to be as widespread as first feared, there's no denying that this is an annoying issue and if you are impacted, you should seek to get it rectified sooner rather than later.

Apple has yet to come out in response to hissgate, but Mr. Hackett has confirmed that Apple offered to replace his device with a brand new unit.

Engadget has speculated that the hiss noise could be a "coil whine", meaning it's a small manufacturing defect as opposed to a design flaw.
