A new year of great reading is set to kick off as February see the return of the Eason Book Club on The Pat Kenny Show, with the debut novel of Rory Gleeson on the cards.

As a member of the Gleeson dynasty – son of Brendan, brother of Domhnall and Brían – Rory is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, and went on to earn degrees from Oxford, the University of Manchester, and UEA.

His first novel is Rockadoon Shore, following a group of self-absorbed young Irish people as they travel to the west of Ireland to spend a weekend together in a remote cabin. The weekend does not go as plan, fuelled by drugs and arguments, and a elderly neighbour who arrives wielding a shotgun.

Honest, moving and human, Rockadoon Shore is a novel about friendship and youth, about missed opportunities and lost love, and about the realities of growing up and growing old in modern-day Ireland. Highly energetic and tensely humorous, Gleeson’s debut heralds a new and exciting voice in contemporary Irish fiction.

February meeting of the Eason Book club will take place on February 16th, so get reading!
