With the debate over Arthur’s Day and the harmful side of alcohol consumption carrying on throughout this week the darker aspect of our drinking culture hasn’t been far from the national consciousness.

This weekend a conference meets in Dublin to discuss ways to battle that harmful side of our relationship with alcohol.

Denis Bradley is the former vice chair of the policing board of Northern Ireland and a man who has dedicated his life to helping those suffering from addiction. He was due to speak at the conference on addiction, but unfortunately will now be unable to attend. However, Denis was able to speak with Pat on this morning’s show and he talked to Pat about a lifetime spent helping others battle their addictions and his efforts to bring about significant change in Ireland’s relationship with Alcohol...

The conference on faith and spirituality in addiction recovery takes place in All Hallows College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9 on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September 2013. Archbishop Diarmuid Martin will attend and speak on the Sunday.
