Pat Nevin believes that Kurt Zouma is in the Chelsea starting lineup on merit.

The former Chelsea and Everton midfielder was on Off The Ball tonight as always on a Monday and gave his take on the promising start made by the young French defender.

The 20-year-old has impressed since Jose Mourinho put him into the first team picture and Nevin was hugely impressed by his performances against Manchester City and Liverpool.

"There might be mistakes to come but what a start he's had. And I, by the way, originally thought he's playing ahead of Gary Cahill because he has more pace. I think he's playing better. Full stop, nothing more," said Pat, who thinks he might just be the find of the season.

"When you bring in centre-backs, very few of them are ready early. They make certain mistakes, getting a little bit anxious, chasing out balls that they're not supposed to do or dive in slightly rashly. He's been playing against the top in the business and he hasn't done it once yet."

Pat also gave his take on winger Jesus Navas' end product for Manchester City and believes players like the ex-Sevilla man need to slow down before crossing the ball.

He also looked back on the first Old Firm derby for a long time.
