Tiger Woods has said he has put the Sergio Garcia’s “fried chicken” comments behind him and wants to move on.
Woods was speaking at a press conference at the Memorial Tournament when he spoke of his desire to get past Garcia’s controversial comments. "It's already done with. It's time to move on," Woods said.
Garcia, speaking at last week’s European Tour Awards, had said: "We will have him round every night. We will serve fried chicken." Fried chicken is stereotypically associated with black people in American South.
The comments caused outrage, with Woods tweeting that he felt the comments, and their racial implications, were “wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate.” Garcia claimed he had not meant the comment as a racist remark, and apologised for any offence they may have caused.
Woods told reporters that Garcia’s comments had not necessarily shocked him, as he knows comments of that nature continue to exist around the world.
"It's happened my entire life.
"It exists all around the world, not just in the sport of golf.
"I know there are a lot of people that are trying to make a difference and trying to make it more fair for all."
