There has been plenty of optimism engendered by Ireland's Six Nations championship win but our Wednesday Night Rugby pundit Gerry Thornley has warned against over-confidence.
Ireland have never been beyond the quarter-finals of a World Cup and in 2015 one slip against France could see Joe Schmidt's side up against New Zealand in the last-8.
"In the heat of the hunt, we've got to remember the last time Ireland went to a World Cup with a huge amount of expectation, we all know what happened. Come the next World Cup, you can be sure that France would possibly be slight favourites in a one-off match. Certainly then if Ireland ran into the All Blacks in the quarter-finals as a result, we all know who would be hot favourites then," said Gerry.
But he feels the 2009 Grand Slam generation has passed on the baton to a new crop of players.
"The great thing about this Six Nations title is that it's proved that '09 wasn't a one-hit wonder and it's passed the baton on to a new group of players. I mean 17 of the 23 were not involved in '09 and particularly for players like Murray and Sexton who should realistically be the half-back combination that will drive Ireland forward for the next couple of years."
Keith Wood and Gerry delved into the details of Joe Schmidt's game plan and the "discernible brand of rugby" that he has implemented.
