After reports last week that Pep Guardiola was to join Manchester City next summer, weekend reports suggested city rivals Manchester United was his preferred destination. 

Ben Lyttleton spoke to Off the Ball last night, to discuss Guardiola's dilemma ahead of the end of the season. He is currently in the final few months of a three year deal with Bayern Munich. 

"The deadline was always going to be the end of this calendar year for a decision. Pep can really string Bayern Munich along if he wants. If he want to say 'I'm tempted to stay a bit longer her because I love it, but give me until March.' What would you do?"

"I think it's between United, City and Bayern. Guardiola would want to win the Champions League with Bayern, and then make his decision, but that is too late, because it would leave Bayern without a plan." 

Of the two Manchester sides, Lyttleton thinks Old Trafford may be more appealing to the former Barcelona manager. "I think United would be a more sensible fit from a philosophical point of view... You could argue it's a bigger job than City." 

It looks like a story that may very well run well into Spring.
