Pat Nevin joined Off the Ball on Monday night to reflect on the weekend's Premier League action.

Liverpool and Tottenham played out a pulsating 2-2 draw on Sunday and Nevin was critical of Jurgen Klopp's options off the bench.

"It was stunning. People forget in the first half how good Liverpool were - they were really, really super in closing down," he told Joe Molloy.

"I've kind of noticed over the last period of time that this 'heavy metal football' where you're closing down, you're high tempo, you can't do it for 90 minutes every week.

"It doesn't work...it only takes one or two guys who are incapable of doing it and it really doesn't work because you end up marking two men and you get torn apart.

"So when the space began to open up as it does in every single game in history - they looked really quite open.

"The second half which was stunning - I thought the Harry Kane penalty probably was a penalty. It was soft but the other one was a nailed-on, stick-on total penalty. I don't think it was a little graze as a lot of people are suggesting - I think he absolutely went through him -didn't see him coming but certainly Van Dijk went through him"

Discussing Klopp's substitutions at the end, Nevin continued: "I think it's who you can bring on. He used to have Coutinho sometimes on the bench or Sturridge on the bench or one of the big names on the bench.

"He's not got a 'big name, absolute game-changer' going forward that he can bring on. I think that's the biggest problem.

"Any change that he makes is either 'keep it the same or make it negative', he added.
