As fans of the Boys in Green, we know a thing or two about causing an unexpected stir at the World Cup.

In Italia 90, we weren't the only nation to shock the world, with Roger Milla's Cameroon stealing some of our thunder, while North Korea's achievement in 1966 was one of the early examples of World Cup giant killing.

2002 turned out to be the World Cup of shocks as Senegal and Turkey joined South Korea in the latter stages, while Croatia Irish-sized population managed to finish third in 1998.

But some of these shocks perhaps should not have been as surprising as they were, while many of these triumphs were founded on interesting stories.
