It may not have been the most exciting Oscar night ever - there were few surprises in the winners - but as always, there were plenty of controversies and surprises to keep everyone entertained.
You may have heard that Neil Patrick Harris' hosting wasn't too popular, but in case you weren't devoted enough to stay up till 5am, here's a quick round up of what you missed.
Read it before lunch and you'll have everyone in the break room convinced you were there.
Oprah left hanging
If you think being one of the most important cultural figures in America is any safeguard against embarrassing high five attempts, you're sadly mistaken.
Rapper Common, on his way to pick up an award for Best Original Song, completely missed Oprah. Luckily John Legend saved her blushes.
John Travolta making everyone uncomfortable
At last year's awards John Travolta made headlines for butchering his pronunciation of Idina Menzel's name. This time the pair co-presented an award, with Travolta making up for things by groping Menzel's face a bit.
It followed earlier red carpet antics, when Travolta planted a kiss on a very obviously perturbed Scarlett Johansson.

Patricia Arquette's call for gender equality
Patricia Arquette, who accepted the Best Supporting actress award for her role in Boyhood, called for equal pay for Hollywood actresses in her speech.
“To every woman who gave birth to every tax payer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America.”
Arquette was greeted by encouraging whoops from the audience - most notably the very enthusiastic Meryl Streep - as well as support on Twitter:
let’s do everyone favor and focus on Patricia Arquette’s speech, which was just an unstoppable avalanche of internationally televised truth.

Joan Rivers left out of In Memoriam section
This year's In Memoriam section of the awards ceremony left out a very notable figure who passed away last year - comedienne and actress Joan Rivers.
Her absence did not go unnoticed, of course:
No Joan Rivers in the montage??? She basically created the red carpet which makes all of these bitches millions. For shame!!!

No Joan Rivers? Tacky to say the least. #Oscars2015

Speaking to Buzzfeed, an Academy spokesperson explained the decision:
“Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the “In Memoriam” segment of this year’s Oscar show. She is, however, included in our “In Memoriam” gallery on Oscar.com.”
Sean Penn's awkward joke
There's a time and a place for off-colour humour between friends and last night Sean Penn was reminded that the place isn't the Oscars and the time isn't while presenting an award.
While awarding Best Director to Alejandro González Iñárritu, with whom he had worked on 21 Grams, he asked, "who gave this son of a bitch his green card?"
Unsurprisingly, a lot of viewers were unimpressed:
so sad that a Mexican man can win an Oscar for his movie but still be taunted for his immigration status and be insecure in his English

#OscarsSoWhite A director of color can't accept an Oscar without being the butt of a racist joke. #Oscars2015
