West Brom's poor run of form in the Championship has cost Valerian Ismael his job as manager.

Following a bright start to the season, the Baggies have slumped to fifth in the table, losing four of their last six league games.

Former Barnsley and Wolfsburg boss Ismael was only appointed at the Hawthorns in July, replacing Sam Allardyce who walked away when West Brom dropped out of the Premier League.

They're currently home to a trio of Republic of Ireland internationals. Jayson Molumby was signed on loan by Ismael in August, linking up with Dara O'Shea and Callum Robinson.

Goals have been a huge concern for Ismael and co, with their tally of 34 the second lowest in the top half of the table. After scoring in three consecutive games at the start of the season, Robinson's only added two more since. To help with the load, Andy Carroll was a surprise January arrival from Reading.

In a brief statement on Wednesday, the West Midlands club said, "West Bromwich Albion Football Club can confirm Valérien Ismaël has today left his position as head coach.

"Assistant head coach Adam Murray has also departed The Hawthorns.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Valérien and Adam for their efforts and wishes them well in the future.

"The process of recruiting a new head coach is now under way and an appointment will be announced in due course."

Due to their FA Cup third round exit at the hands of Brighton, West Brom have some wiggle room in which to make their appointment. Their next game comes on Wednesday- week away to Sheffield United.

The following weekend, they entertain Blackburn, who currently sit eight point above the Baggies in the automatic promotion places.

Former Newcastle manager Steve Bruce is the early favourite to take the baton from Ismael.
