Martin O'Neill praised his side's performance after Ireland's 2-2 draw against Slovakia this evening, saying there were a number of positives to take from the game.

Lacking in recognised forwards, O'Neill went for the partnership of Shane Long and James McClean up front and it was a move that paid dividends.

Two penalties in quick succession cancelled out Miroslav Stoch's opener and gave Ireland the lead and a commanding hold on the game.

Wes Hoolahan and Eunan O'Kane both produced excellent performances, facilitated by the no nonsense defending from Glenn Whelan and James McCarthy.

Paul McShane's own-goal on the stroke of half-time consigned O'Neill's men to a draw, but a lot of positives will be taken from tonight's performances.

Robbie Brady and Anthony Pilkington both came off the bench and produced good performances.

There will be some doubts over McShane's inclusion after his defensive errors led to two of the goals this evening.
