Arsene Wenger has one year to run on his current deal at Arsenal Football Club and says he will wait "very late" to enter contract renewal negotiations with the club.

The Frenchman denied rumours that a new deal had been struck recently and believes his principles will not allow him to give anything other than his best when he is under contract for any amount of money.

The 66-year old will enter his 20th season at the club next year with many fans waiting with bated breath to hear about the future of the longest-serving manager in the history of their club.

He said, “to be professional is to give your best as long as you have the contract. If it is for one penny or £200m, it is exactly the same. When I sign a contract and I agree the money that I work for, I will give my best until the last minute of the season. I never renegotiated any contract that I signed because that is the way I have behaved my whole life.

“It’s not about me, it’s about the club. My role is just to serve the club as well as I can and after see where I stand and where the club is. I have to forget about myself even if people who want to create unrest don’t. I will continue to give my absolute best to do well next season and then after that, we’ll see.”

Arsenal's season has ended in disappointment but the club's fans will be glad of having ensured Champions League football with at least a third-placed finish provided they don't lose tomorrow against Aston Villa.
