Tanya Watson has booked her place at the Tokyo Games and in doing so becomes the first Irish female diver in history to qualify for the Olympics.

Watson finished 16th in the preliminaries for the 10-metre Platform at the FINA Diving World Cup in Tokyo on Wednesday morning.

The result sees her advance to the semi-finals and the Tokyo Games later this year.

Ciara McGing just missed out on automatic qualification finishing 23rd with 240.95 and will have to wait until ranking closes in mid-May.

Yesterday Clare Cryan also missed the elusive spot in the Women’s 3m Springboard when she was 31st in the Prelims.

Oliver Dingley, who qualified for Rio in 2016, will be the last of Ireland’s divers to bid for Tokyo 2020 qualification.
