Louis van Gaal's public utterances have rarely been as dull as the football his Manchester United team have occasionally played of late.

The manager had more to say today when he faced the press in the wake of yesterday's 3-3 draw with Newcastle United.

Seemingly riled by criticism of Wayne Rooney, Van Gaal left the room - but not before calling one reporter a "fat man":
