"From the depths of hell" was the term used by the commentators at the Irish Universities Athletics Association (IUAA) 4 x 400m relay event this past weekend, and they were not far wrong in their assessment of the situation.

Morton Stadium was the venue as the IUAA track and field championships took place, with athletes representing their colleges all over the country.

The 4 x 400m race saw teams from UCD, UL, CIT, DCU, UCC, Trinity and Athlone IT all taking part, with the teams more or less lining up in that order as they entered the final leg.

With UCC in fifth, they were given little chance of finishing higher than fourth, but as other athletes made their moves and started to fade, somewhere deep inside Phil Healy found the power and strength to produce a dramatic and spectacular finish to the race.

You can watch the full race below, or jump ahead to the three minute mark to see the amazing comeback kick off.

As she crossed the finish line, Healy clearly had no energy left and stumbled before collapsing as soon as the race was over, leaving her with a few injuries, something she acknowledged when she tweeted about the race afterwards.
