But as he begins his new task as Valencia boss, does he mind being the subject of analysis from former Manchester United team-mates like Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand who have moved into punditry careers with BT Sport?

That question has been put to him and he spoke about having a "thick skin" when it comes to taking criticism:
