On the occasion of her father being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, Sydney Seau spoke about how much he had accomplished in his career, but also about how much she and the rest of her family missed him in their lives. 

Seau was a hugely popular player among fans, and after he took his own life in 2012, it was revealed that he had been suffering from chronic tramuatic encephalopathy (CTE), a concussion-related condition that has affected a number of NFL players. There was huge controversy when the NFL made the decision that Sydney would not be allowed to give any form of speech, but after a public outcry, they decided to let her be interviewed on stage. 

She took that opportunity to give a hugely moving speech that brought her grandparents to tears, and after choking back her own emotion, spoke about how her father was a light in their lives and was a trailblazer for other Polynesian and Samoan players in the sport. 

After she finished, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. However, Sydney had another speech prepared that she wasn't allowed to give, but speaking to the New York Times, she read the speech that she had planned on giving at the ceremony.
