"I know he wasn't saying that I am 'that' person but it put me in that bracket and I did not appreciate that one bit. There are people buried in the desert for less than that. Floyd need to understand before he speaks who he is speaking about. It's as simple as that."

That was part of Conor McGregor's response last week when he was asked about former world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather's comments on the issue of racism and portrayals of fighters based on that in combat sports.

McGregor had felt that it was unfair to include his name in conversations on the issue, and when asked about the Dubliner's response, the unbeaten but now retired American said: "Once again, I never said the guy Conor McGregor was ... I didn't say I had anything against him, Caucasians, white Americas or white people period, or Irish. All I said is this: In this world, racism still exists but I'm not racist. That's all I said."

However, he added that if McGregor "got offended, that's life".
