It's a sight that football fans have become accustomed to, but AIK shaked things up a little, by allowing pensioners instead of children walk out onto the field with the players before their Allsvenskan game on Sunday.

The idea, came off the back of an idea by the club to honour the club's fans of an older generation. All 11 AIK fans who took to the field were in their eighties or nineties.

Former UEFA President Lennart Johansson who is the honorary president of the club, led the team onto the field ahead of their 1-0 win.

According to The Guardian, Johansson said the idea was to show that all AIK fans cannot attend games even if they want to. "There are a lot of us who have lived with AIK all of our lives but who can’t, for various reasons, get to the stadium these days. That doesn’t mean that we care less about the club. Maybe just that we have a little bit more difficulty travelling and moving around."

What a terrific idea from the club. The win helped AIK move up to third place in the Allsvenskan.
