There's always something fascinating about movie gaffes. Whether it's that stormtrooper hitting his head in Star Wars or any number of continuity mistakes, refilling glasses, regenerating objects or visible boom mics, film fans will always be delighted and fascinated by movie mistakes.
Often these errors are only spotted by the eagle-eyed viewers, or occur in the background of the main action. But in a new Jennifer Lopez film, there is an error so blatant it is a mystery how it ever made it through to final cut.
In the scene in The Boy Next Door, J-Lo's character is given a gift by a suitor (Ryan Guzman). Problem is, the gift in question is a supposed 'first edition' of the Iliad which he picked up at a garage sale.
Given an original version of Homer's epic Greek poem was not exactly a hardbound, English-language version - the first printed edition didn't appear until the 10th century, and the poem itself around 3,000 years old - you can see how the scene has already become the subject of mockery.
The screenwriter of the film, Barbara Curry, has said the script for the film was changed without her participation. "Much of my original script was rewritten by the producers and the director," she told Fusion. "I was not given the opportunity to participate in the production of this movie. As for the first edition ‘Iliad’ reference in the movie, that was not something I wrote in my original script.”
