The inconsistency of Netflix's many applications has been one of most common criticisms levelled at the service, with various devices offering notably different versions of the streaming service's app. The company is finally looking to start unifying devices with the announcement that they've finalised a significant overhaul of their television user interface.

Set to launch on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Roku and Smart TVs / Blu-Ray players, the app has much more of a focus on visual displays. Searching and browsing have been redesigned, now offering larger photos. Synopses on the main page will be shorter, but the dedicated show & film pages will offer more information. There is a greater integration of social network and user preferences, with the app listing friends that have watched any given content. Netflix's suggestions will be further tailored depending on user's viewing history and preference settings.

The app has been specifically tailored for TVs, which means web and mobile versions of the app will stay the same. The update will start rolling out today, although is expected to take two weeks to reach all devices.
