In his long career, Miroslav Klose has always shown that he knows where the goal is. But even he would not have expected to net five in one match as his Lazio hammered Bologna 6 - 0 yesterday afternoon in Serie A. The German World Cup hero is the first player to score five times in a Serie A match since 1986.

Brazilian midfielder Hernanes got the other goal.

It was a depressing story for Brazilian defender Thiago Silva who got sent off for putting his hands on the referee against Valenciennes.

However there seemed to be little aggression from the PSG star which makes the red card look ludicrous. David Beckham, Leonardo and other onlookers appeared bemused by the decision.

It was a bad day for the Parisians as they drew 1 - 1. If they had won, they would have wrapped up their first league title in 19 years.

Judge the sending off for yourself:

Lionel Messi did not start against Real Betis last night as he works his way back to fitness. But with the scores 2 - 2 at the Camp Nou, Tito Vilanova threw him on and he did this:

Barcelona eventually won 4 - 2 with another Messi goal following an exquisite build up. The result leaves the Catalans 11 points clear of Real Madrid with four games to go.

If Barca draw next weekend away at third-placed Atletico Madrid, they will have virtually secured the La Liga title due to their superior goal difference.
