As soon as Robbie Brady curled in an excellent free-kick to cap off Ireland’s 4 – 1 win over the USA last night, it got me thinking... how often do we get to see Boys in Green find the net from dead balls?

There have been a few over the years.

You might remember that Drogheda’s favourite son Ian Harte had a brilliant record from them for Ireland and Leeds United.

This one against Israel in 2005 prompted the war cry ‘I LOVE IAN HARTE.’

Is there something in the water down in Louth because Dundalk’s Steve Staunton's famous finish against the Soviets in 1990 was the apogee of his free-kick ability:
