La Liga

After last week's Copa del Rey hiatus, Spanish clubs were back in league action this weekend and for Real Madrid it wasn't a happy return.

Carlo Ancelotti's side managed to claw back a 2 - 0 deficit to earn a draw at lowly Osasuna but it came at a cost.

Centre-back Sergio Ramos was sent off for the 18th time in his Real career, while the result means Madrid have lost ground to Barcelona and Atletico in the title race.

The goal of the game came from Isco just before half-time...

Following his good form against Celtic, Neymar added two more on Saturday night as Barcelona edged out Villareal 2 - 1 at the Nou Camp.

Barca's win proved crucial as Atletico Madrid beat 9th place Valencia 3 - 0 at the Vicente Calderon with Diego Costa scoring twice.

If Atletico had scored one more, they would have gone top on goal difference but as it stands the in-form Colchoneros are finely poised to strike if Spain's Big Two falter.

La Liga did have a miss of the season contender as Granada's Yousseff El Arabi contrived to miss an open goal in a 1 - 0 defeat to Malaga...

Bundesliga

Bayern Munich's headlock at the top of the Bundesliga only got tighter and after a 41st league game without defeat, the Bavarians will soon be able to hand out wedgies unimpeded.

Pep Guardiola's team beat Hamburg 3 - 1, while their nearest rivals Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen both dropped points.

Bayern's second goal from Mario Gotze was the pick of the bunch...

Borussia Dortmund stay third after struggling to a 2 - 2 draw at Hoffenheim, while second placed Bayer Leverkusen suffered their first home defeat of the season against 15th place Eintracht Frankfurt.

Serie A

Throwing down a gauntlet to second placed Roma who visit AC Milan tonight, Carlos Tevez scored his first hat-trick for Juventus in a 4 - 0 win over 17th placed Sassuolo. Here's one of them...

Fiorentina's Giuseppi Rossi continued his fine form this season scoring his 13th goal of the season with a well-taken lob in a 3 - 0 win over struggling Bologna...

However the game of the weekend in Serie A was last night's clash between Napoli and the Inter Milan side of their former manager Walter Mazzari.

Napoli prevailed 4 - 2 in an end-to-end match, with fine goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Dries Mertens to keep the Neapolitans in third...

Ligue 1

France's top three of PSG, Monaco and Lille all won, while Lyon and Marseille drew 2 - 2 in their clash.

Thiago Motta's opener for PSG in the 3 - 1 over Rennes was pretty special.

Eredivisie

PSV ended an eight-match run without a win by thrashing Utrecht 5 - 1 away. Jurgen Locadia who was featured on the Off The Ball Scouting Report this weekend was one of the goalscorers. But PSV are still down in 9th.

Chelsea feeder team Vitesse Arnhem, who I analysed in Saturday's Euro Footy Focus, stay top of the table after a 3 - 2 win over NAC Breda.

But Ajax and Feyenoord both won to keep pace at the top.

Primeria Liga

Sporting Lisbon stay top in Portugal after their 3 - 0 win at home to Belenenses. But only two points separate the top three as FC Porto and Benfica all picked up three points.
