Seabstian Vettel has won his fourth F1 world title with victory at the Indian Grand Prix. The German only needed a fifth place finish to wrap up the title but took the chequered flag following a retirement by his teammate Mark Webber on lap 44.
Fernando Alonso – Vettel’s clsoest challenger in the driver’s championship - needed a top two finish to keep alive any hope of pushing the title race to the next race in Abu Dhabi. Those hopes were dashed by the first corner when Mark Webber clipped Alonso’s wheel, following a collision with Kimi Raikkonen. Alonso was forced into a pit stop on the second lap, scuppering Ferrari’s race plan. Alonso then spent the race mired in the pack for the remainder of the race and eventually finished 11th.
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg was second while Romain Grosjean of Lotus was third.
The win for Vettel also secured the constructor’s championship for Red Bull.
