Red Bull's Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel has been named as sportsman of the year at the prestigious Laureus Sports Awards.
American swimmer Missy Franklin took the women's prize at what is commonly referred to as the "Oscars" of sport.
Team of the year went to German giants Bayern Munich who swept all before them in 2013.

Vettel faced competition from Mo Farah, Usain Bolt, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lebron James for the men's prize but won out in a ceremony which included several tributes to those affected by the disappearance of Malaysian flight MH37.
