David Moyes has started his Manchester United career with a win and a trophy. Two goals from Robin Van Persie were the difference at Wembley as United overcame last season’s FA Cup winners, Wigan Atheltic.
Van Persie’s first came in the 7th minute, as he got on the end of an inch perfect Patrice Evra cross and steered an excellent header past Scott Carson and into the far corner of the Wigan net.
The Dutchman’s second came after 59 minutes when a deflected shot from the edge of the area went past the wrong footed Carson before nestling in the Wigan net.
James McLean made his debut for Wigan following his transfer from Sunderland.
