Pat Nevin believes Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has failed to get the best out of Wayne Rooney.

The Reds struggled against West Ham yesterday in a 1-1 draw with Rooney in midfield, as he has done in recent weeks.

Speaking to Off The Ball, Pat feels it's not just a question of changed positions. 

"At the moment, he's not getting the best of Rooney. Absolutely not!" said Pat, of a player who has not had a shot on target this year.

"He'll argue that it's because he's playing deeper. But that wouldn't have stopped him in the past. You'd have played Rooney at left-back and he'd have got shots on target."

But Pat is still confident that Man United will get into the Top Four.

He also gave his take on Harry Kane and whether the Tottenham striker can sustain his form after a match-winning performance against Arsenal, and still thinks he can improve his link-up play.
