With some of the violence (there's no other word for it) employed by Honduras yesterday, it was probably a good thing that the diminutive Mathieu Valbuena was subbed off before the end.

Like his team-mates, the France winger was on the end of some rough treatment in Les Bleus' World Cup opener and an injury to the Marseille man would have been a blow.

Switching flanks with the impressive Antoine Griezmann, Valbuena saw more of the ball than the Real Sociedad youngster, firing in 10 crosses, completing 85 per cent of his passes and getting three shots away.

However, he will want to improve on his chance creation rate, making just one opportunity for his team-mates in an attritional 3 - 0 win.
