USA Ryder Cup golf captain Tom Watson has rejected comments he may be too old to keep in touch with the younger members of his team.

There is 44 year gap between the American skipper and 21 year-old Jordan Spieth.

Watson, who is 65, was the USA captain the last time they won the trophy away from home in 1993.

He says he has got a good relationship with all of his team.

"They know I played in the Ryder Cup, they understand I've been a captain. They know that I know what they're doing . They have every respect for me and I have respect for them. We're on the same page, we're professional golfers. It doesn't matter how old you are, or how young you are," he said.

Europe captain Paul McGinley is 18 years Watson's junior at 47.
