Ulster negotiated some thick fog in Italy to take a 35-3 bonus point win over Treviso in their Heineken Cup pool game this afternoon.
For most of the first half the game was deadlocked at 3-3, with a penalty from Paddy Jackson and Treviso’s Alberto di Bernardo the only scores.
Luke Marshall made the crucial breakthrough on 37 minutes when he crossed in the corner, following a Jared Payne kick ahead.
Jackson added another penalty before the break and one quickly after the restart to put Ulster in a commanding position.
Treviso fullback Brendan Williams was sent to the sin bin on 57 minutes and from there Mark Anscombe’s Ulster side made light work of wrapping up the game and the extra point.
Robbie Diack, Payne and Craig Gilroy all crossed the line to pile up the scores and set Ulster on course to top Pool 5 on 18 poins, 7 clear of second placed Leicester Tigers who play Montpellier tomorrow.
