Ulster have leapfrogged Munster into second in the Pro12 table, but only on points difference.

They picked up a losing bonus point in a 26-22 defeat away to the Newport Gwent Dragons.

It was a very close first half, with the Dragons at 6 points to Ulster's 5 at half-time. The Ulster points came courtesy of a try from Craig Gilroy.

Ulster went back in front at the Parade thanks to Ruan Pienaar's successful penalty in the 47th minute. Dragons fought back with a penalty from Dorian Jones, soon followed by tries from Rhys Buckley and Jonathan Evans - at one stage leaving 13 points between the two teams.

A second try from Gilroy narrowed the gap, but was quickly countered when Carl Meyer crossed the line. Ulster kept the pressure on, but despite a late try from replacement Ross Adair they trailed by four points at the final whistle.

The result marks the end of a disappointing week for the Irish provinces in Wales, following Munster and Leinster's losses yesterday.

And there was heartbreak for Connacht on Friday night as Cardiff Blues scored a last gasp converted try to deny Pat Lam's side an away victory at the Arms Park

Glasgow Warriors remain on top of the Pro12 table, followed by Ulster and Munster.
