Manchester United's assistant manager Mike Phelan has left the club.

He was number two to Sir Alex Ferguson since 2008, having spent the previous seven years as first team coach after the departure of Carlos Queiroz.

Goalkeeping coach Eric Steele is also leaving Old Trafford as new manager David Moyes looks to bring in his own backroom staff.
